Take the brand new ice skating rink in Public Square for a spin

Want to hear something super cool? There's a brand new ice skating rink in Public Square, right in the heart of Downtown Cleveland.

After construction to Public Square were completed earlier this year, the traditional Downtown ice rink will be reopened this November thanks to The Cleveland Foundation. With an official opening of Friday, Nov. 18, the rink will host plenty of winter-time fun, including a free day of skating on Nov. 26 to celebrate its grand opening.

“The Cleveland Foundation Skating Rink will be a prominent feature on the Plaza during the winter months,” said Jennifer Trivelli, marketing and communications officer at The Cleveland Foundation. “We are thrilled to present a free day during Thanksgiving weekend for families to enjoy this revitalized asset in the heart of our community.”

Tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis on the day of the event, which is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. A ticket gets you a free skate rental and 45 minutes of time on the ice. Make sure to get in on this deal early, because no more than 150 tickets will be distributed per time slot. Check out the time slots here.

The ice rink is just the latest in a long list of works to benefit the Cleveland population by The Cleveland Foundation.

“We have been long-standing supporters throughout the history of Public Square, including an $8 million centennial grant in 2014 for the transformation of Public Square and the creation of Cleveland Foundation Centennial Plaza,” Trivelli said.

The Cleveland Foundation, whose mission is to enhance the lives of all residents of Greater Cleveland, recently announced a $100,000 grant that will be used in supporting community programming on Cleveland Foundation Centennial Plaza in Public Square (home to the ice rink). Look out for their upcoming works and jump on the chance to enjoy ice skating Downtown while you can.

The ice rink’s normal hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays, and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. Skating will resume normal programming after the November 26 and be open through February 28. Visitors can skate for $10, or $7 if you bring your own skates. Plan to bring some fellow skaters? Holiday Friends and Family 10-packs are available for $75.
