InCuya: Beyond the Headliners

Find a New Favorite Band at InCuya Music Fest

Nothing gets people riled up more than debating the lineups of music festivals. But in year one, the InCuya Music Festival - which takes place Aug. 25-26 right in the heart of downtown C-Town, at Malls B and C - has done a bang-up job of booking music.

In addition to a formidable lineup of national headliners - R&B sensation SZA, folk-rock titans The Avett Brothers, synth-pop legends New Order and rock giants AWOLNATION - the lineup at InCuya boasts a genre-diverse mix of local and national acts.

So, here's the scoop on eight other must-see artists that you should add to your playlist in preparation for the big weekend.

Bahamas

It makes perfect sense that Bahamas (a.k.a. the moniker under which Afie Jurvanen performs) is signed to Jack Johnson's label, Brushfire Records: Like the imprint's laid-back owner, Jurvanen specializes in crafting soulful indie rock with breezy acoustic guitars and gorgeous harmonies.

Daniel Caesar

The Canadian native and two-time Grammy nominee favors the kind of chilled-out R&B that's going to sound perfect on a sunny summer afternoon. Crank up the velvet-smooth seduction "Get You," which features Kali Uchs, for a good taste of Caesar's approach.

Earl Sweatshirt

The former Odd Future member has carved out an innovative solo career thanks to gritty lyrics, seamless flow and emotionally resonant hip-hop production - as heard on the astounding, introspective "Grief."

J. Roddy Walston & The Business

The Virginia-based quartet specializes in the kind of rock 'n' roll inspired by gospel and the blues - ensuring songs such as the barnburner "Heavy Bells" and soaring anthem "The Wanting" would fit neatly next to Springsteen, Gaslight Anthem and Kings of Leon.

K. Flay

Like many modern artists, Illinois native K. Flay doesn't see sonic boundaries. Crank up 2017's "Every Where Is Some Where," and you'll hear music that shape shifts between electro-tinged pop, aggressive rock ‘n' roll and sinewy hip-hop.

The Revivalists

It's tough to pin down the sound of the Revivalists-and they wouldn't have it other way. The New Orleans-formed troupe whips up a jammy mix of soul, funk and rock driven by peppy horns and keyboards.

THEY.

The Guardian once called THEY. "meditative rock for the Drake generation," which is a pretty accurate way of summarizing the beatmaking L.A. duo's music-a collision of moody guitars, laid-back production and R&B flourishes, with the occasional aggressive song (the trap-influenced "Thrive") thrown in for variety.

Yuna

Over the last decade, R&B/pop artist Yuna has amassed a rather impressive discography, both in the U.S. and in her native Malaysia, highlighted by 2016's aching, Usher-featuring hit "Crush" and glacial, synth-iced "Unrequited Love."

Buy Tickets to InCuya

Don't worry, it's not too late to buy general admission and VIP tickets for InCuya. For those looking to be kind to their wallets, there are even payment plans available - although they're going fast.
