Guys’ Weekend, CLE Style
2+ days of beer, sports, food, and rock and roll.
By Adam Sockel
The guys' weekend is a time-honored tradition where men typically gather together and take a trip to places like Las Vegas. But why spend all that money on flights and overpriced hotels when the real destination you should be heading to is Cleveland? Here's an itinerary for a perfect weekend spent with your best buds that is sure to show you why locals call this the Cleve-Land that we love.
Dinner - Start your Friday night off by dining at one of Cleveland's award-winning hotspots like The Greenhouse Tavern, where you can share a bucket of the best fried chicken you'll ever eat. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you can try the unbelievable roasted pig head while washing it down with any of their outstanding hand-crafted cocktails.
Evening - The Greenhouse Tavern is a two minute walk from Quicken Loans Arena, so head over and watch LeBron James and the Cavaliers if you're in town for a home game. If you can't score tickets or they're on the road, check out The Butcher & the Brewer right across the street for great drinks and tons of big screen TVs to catch the game. End the night at The Horseshoe Casino, where you can try your luck at some table games or slot machines. Gambling not your thing? Check out The Corner Alley instead and bowl a few frames to round out the evening.
Breakfast - Pop into Townhall in Ohio City for breakfast, where you can indulge in ridiculously good sweet potato hotcakes, or even build-your-own crepes, with choices like blackberries, Nutella, gruyere cheese, prosciutto, bacon, house sausage, mushrooms or parmesan reggiano. The menu is huge, with 20+ options from biscuits and gravy to benedicts to burgers with eggs on them. What?!
Midday - After fueling up, spend midday discovering Ohio City's many breweries, including the famous Great Lakes Brewing Co. Take a $5 brewery tour at GLBC, which includes four 5 oz. beer samples and an hour-long walk through the production facility with beer in-hand. Afterward, head over to the West Side Market for lunch, where you can find foods, spices and desserts from countless ethnic backgrounds. If you're a fan of Greek food, you can't miss Steve's Gyros.
Afternoon - What's a trip to Cleveland without seeing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum? Guys, it's the Rock Hall! Geek out over artifacts and exhibits such as hand-written lyrics from Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley's custom motorcycle, Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" glove, or Metallica's stage props. Snap a selfie in front of the iconic glass building to proclaim your awesomeness on Instagram - and don't forget to hashtag #ThisisCLE.
Evening - For an evening you won't soon forget, head to the newly revived East Bank of the Flats right on the waterfront, where you can get great seafood at Alleycat Oyster Bar and then enjoy a night of singing along the dueling pianos of The Big Bang. Or you can make your evening an "all in one" affair and head to Punch Bowl Social, where you can eat, drink at three large bars, and enjoy some old school fun with vintage arcade games, ping pong, shuffle board and even private karaoke all under one roof.
Brunch - Sleep in a bit. You deserve it. Then, brunch like a man over at Cleveland Chop downtown, where you can slam some steak and eggs or a breakfast burrito to get you in the right frame of mind.
Midday - Spend your Sunday eating and watching football like a true Clevelander. Tailgate with the pros down at the "Muni Lot" (1500 S. Marginal Rd.). Warning: Die hard Browns fans frequent this area. Proceed with caution if you're wearing a jersey from another team. To catch the game itself, head over to Barley House and rub elbows with football fans while watching coverage on any of the large TVs and indulging in grilled street dogs.
No matter what type of guys' weekend you're looking to have, Cleveland has the goods to make it memorable. This is CLE and we can't wait to show you a great time.
