For Meetings, Cleveland's Rockin
See what all the excitement is about in Cleveland
Up there on Lake Erie, Cleveland has been making some tidal-size waves lately. It didn't hurt when two mega-star athletes decided to call Cleveland home ("King" LeBron James and "Johnny Football" Manziel). And then the GOP joined the party by picking Cleveland for its 2016 national convention.
So maybe it's time to see what all the excitement is about in Cleveland. The city started to transform itself in the 1990s and it hasn't stopped since.
One major addition is located in the heart of a vibrant downtown on the shores of Lake Erie: the new FirstMerit Convention Center of Cleveland. It includes 225,000 gross square feet of Class A exhibit space divisible into three exhibition halls, 35 state-of-the-art meeting rooms, and a 32,000-square-foot, column-free ballroom with spectacular views of Cleveland's lakefront.
It's part of $3 billion in visitor-related development that will also include multiple new hotel properties, including a Hilton convention center hotel opening in 2016.
The city is also recognized as an international foodie paradise, is home to the most concentrated square mile of arts and cultural organizations and has a thriving craft beer scene.
Cleveland also loves its arts and its sports, home to many museums and the professional franchises of the Browns, Indians and the Cavs. There are also a variety of recently opened casino options. And as the home of rock music, Cleveland is the place for the one and only Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
