See one of the most popular National Parks by train on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad
By Adam Sockel
In Northeast Ohio, our burgeoning metropolis is surrounded by thousands of acres of gorgeous forests complete with towpaths and trails for hiking, biking and outdoor adventure. We are fortunate to call the Cuyahoga Valley National Park our own and along with it, a little-known jewel called the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
"It's so much more than just a train ride," says Kimberly Gillan Shafron, Director of Marketing for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR). "It's time away from the hectic lifestyle, a time to disconnect from the digital world and connect face-to-face! It is about the memories you make when you climb aboard."
The CVSR is a historic railway that offers passengers the ability to journey through a world of typically unseen, breathtaking nature and wildlife as well as providing the chance to stop at shops and locations you might not visit otherwise.
The CVSR runs Wednesdays through Sundays from June 1 through October 1. But don't worry--the fun continues during the fall and winter months as well with signature events. During November, the train runs on Saturdays and Sundays with breakfast and lunch along the Cuyahoga, and in December it transforms into none other than the Polar Express (complete with Santa, his elves, a reading of the beloved book, and all of the magic you can handle).
If you're up for other experiences that go beyond your average train ride, punch your ticket for one of these special events:
Take the journey of a runaway slave on this experiential program. You'll explore the underground railroad on a two-mile lantern hike with the train being your final destination. There, you'll discover your fate (Recommended for ages 14 and up). November 4 and 5, 2016.
Veterans Day Train
On November 11, the CVSR thanks our nation's military veterans by offering a free ride for them and up to three family members. Simply show a valid military ID - no tickets or registration required.
Mr. Jingeling's Holiday Jubilee
Start the holiday season off on November 26 or 27 by joining the CVSR to hear Mr. Jingeling, Santa's #1 elf, sing Christmas songs and talk about life at the North Pole. He'll even sign a good luck key for the kiddos.
